Michelle (M): Glenn, what fuels your passion for transforming the automotive sales landscape, especially concerning inclusivity and trust?
Glenn (G): My main drive comes from wanting to change the relationship dynamics between clients and salespeople. There's often a disconnect, with clients wary of sales tactics and salespeople seeing customers as transactions. This unsustainable culture led me to Genesis, where I strive to instil trust as our core value, ensuring every interaction is authentic and supportive.
M: What drew you to Genesis, and how does the brand's commitment to inclusivity resonate with your values?
G: Genesis appealed to me as a brand in its early stages, offering a chance to genuinely fulfill promises made to customers. Over time, I've witnessed significant growth, reinforcing our dedication to providing affordable luxury experiences. Genesis's emphasis on inclusivity and customer-centric values closely aligns with my personal beliefs, driving my passion to redefine automotive sales with integrity and empathy.
M: Working weeekends and managing a large team would keep you on your toes, can you walk us through your typical day, including how you balance personal wellness with professional demands?
G: Mornings begin with meditation and mobility exercises, followed by planning using my Not Stationary planner, it keeps me organised and focused and minimises digital distractions (no scrolling in the morning!). Team meetings each morning are essential for communication in the unpredictable retail environment. Balancing personal wellness, such as my fitness routines and mindfulness practices, with professional responsibilities is crucial for maintaining energy and clarity throughout the day. My strength workouts in the gym are critical to my performance in all areas of my life.
M: Describe your business approach in three words, and how does it reflect your management style?
G: People, Process, Product – a mantra passed down by my mentor, underscores the importance of human connection, efficient operations, and quality offerings. This approach mirrors my leadership philosophy of inclusive leadership, where every team member's voice is valued, ensuring a collaborative and supportive work culture, and all in a fiercly competitve industry.
M: What are your essential tools for productivity, and do you have a personal mantra that guides you?
G: Dual monitors, my planner, and a Bluetooth speaker are essential for my workspace. I live by the motto "Progress, not perfection," encouraging continuous improvement and focus on achievable goals rather than unattainable ideals. The Performance Planner has really helped me elevate my goal setting, tracking and achievement.
M: How do you incorporate traditional pen-and-paper methods into your strategic processes in today's tech-driven world?
G: Pen-and-paper methods enhance my focus and productivity. Writing in my planner and notebook allows for clear thinking and organisation, essential in managing daily tasks effectively and fostering creativity outside of digital distractions. Of course I use various apps and tools to manage, schedule, track and report.
M: What valuable lessons have you learned about team development and inclusivity?
G: People come first. Witnessing both business and team growth has been enlightening. Nurturing talent amidst expansion has taught me the importance of fostering a supportive work culture where diversity and inclusivity are celebrated and integrated into our everyday operations.
M: Congratulations on your recent engagement! How do you plan to balance personal milestones with your demanding professional life?
G: Thank you! My partner Sarhys and I prioritise open communication and mutual support, believing that each of us must dedicate ourselves fully to our personal and shared goals while maintaining a healthy work-life balance. She is a Personal Trainer and equally comitted to high performance and exceptional service. These shared values and teamwork form the foundation of our balance between personal and professional pursuits.
M: How does your dedication to fitness influence your leadership and workplace performance?
G: Consistency in fitness routines translates to consistency in the workplace. By prioritising physical and mental well-being, I maintain focus, resilience, and productivity throughout the day, setting a positive example for my team.
M: What advice would you give to those striving for success in their career?
G: Patience and integrity are paramount. Rushing success can lead to mistakes; instead, focus on continuous improvement and staying true to your values, building trust with customers and colleagues alike.
M: I’m pretty sure you’d have faced a challenge or setback, can you share how it has shaped your growth?
G: One significant challenge for me was the decision to embrace sobriety in 2018. This personal choice provided clarity and focus, enhancing my effectiveness both personally and professionally. While sobriety may not be for everyone, for me, it was a pivotal step in my journey towards greater self-awareness and leadership. I volunteer and mentor groups of young men on a regular basis, sharing my values and experiences with them, hopeful that it can make a postive difference in their lives.
M: Looking back on your journey, what life lesson do you wish you knew earlier?
G: Building trust in all aspects of life, both personal and professional, is crucial. Authenticity and genuine connections drive sustainable success, foster long-term relationships and opportunities for growth.
